Who’s behind Flock Safety’s $7B surveillance camera network?

80,000+ cameras in 49 states. 1.6B+ plates scanned every week. $300M in annual revenue.

Here’s an inside look at the origin story of Flock’s $8B+ surveillance empire, plus an exclusive look at an early investor pitch.

Flock Safety was born in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from the notable startup accelerator Y Combinator (which incubated unicorns like Airbnb, Dropbox, and Coinbase). Their audacious mission was to eliminate non-violent cameras with technology, starting with an automated license plate readers (ALPRs).

Today, Flock operates over 80,000 cameras in 49 states, which scan billions of vehicles every week.

In this video, we’ll take a look at some of the slides from Flock’s 2020 Series C investor presentation. Back then, Flock was featured weekly in local news channels for helping to solve crimes. Today, news coverage is different, with Flock losing contracts with cities around the nation after stories broke revealing privacy issues such as sharing data with federal agencies like ICE and inappropriate usage (ie. stalking an ex) by police officers.

Flock most recently raised a $250M round led by Andreesen-Horowtitz (as part of their “American Dynamism” national defense practice), which values the company over $8 billion.
